Premier Open Show

25th June 2023 

Thank you to the secretary and committee for inviting me to judge at their premier open show.  I thoroughly enjoyed my day and a big thank you to the exhibitors as without them there would be no show.

AV Toy Veteran (3/1)

1st Ralph’s Stormchi Blaize of Glory (chihuahua l/c) – 9 year old fawn dog.  Compact and dainty, in lovely coat.  Good head with large dark eyes and a good bite.  Well-constructed throughout and moved with purpose and drive keeping a level topline at all times.  Pleased to award him best AV toy veteran. 2nd Cater’s Bronmara Moonlight in Pixels JW ShCM (Chihuahua l/c) – 10 year old fawn bitch in good coat.  Lovely head proportions with good overall construction.  Moved well, just preferred movement of 1.

Junior (1/0)

1st Stearman’s Edgwarebury Phantom (Pekingese) – 1 year old dog in lovely coat.  Fairly large head with firm under jaw.  Nice dark, round very expressive eyes.  Good neck leading into a broad chest with well sprung ribs.  Good front with strong well-muscled hindquarters with a well carried tail.  Best AVNSC.

Post Graduate (2/0)

1st Gill’s Florindale Wicked Wilma – 3 year old bitch in good harsh coat with grey shading.  Pleasing head with dark expressive eyes.  Short back with sprung ribs, straight front with elbows tucked in.  Slight rear angulation.  Moved well.

2nd Kemeny’s Tonsarne The Tiller Girl – 2 year old bitch, another with a harsh jacket.  Good head with dark eyes, sprung ribs and straight front.  Hind legs under body and moved well.  Didn’t use her tail to best advantage.

1st Gill’s Florindale William Waffle –4 year old dog with a good harsh jacket, typical monkey expression from his dark sparkling eyes to his prominent chin and well framed head.  Good short back, well sprung ribs, straight front and good rear.  Tail slightly carried low.  He has a typical action on the move and pleased to award him BOB and Group 4.  2ndKemeny’s Capricho Leibling – 7 year old bitch, another with a harsh coat.  Good head with dark eyes, short back with sprung ribs and tail carried well on the move RBOB.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

Puppy (2/0)

1st Li’s Avalcier Adeline – 7 ½ month Blenheim bitch, lovely size and shape.  Large dark eyes and high set, long ears.  Nice bite and a good spring of rib.  Good compact feet.  Tail in balance with rest of body.  Moved with drive BP.  2ndKemp’s Capriconia Campari – 9 month ruby bitch with a lovely head, dark eye and correct bite.  Good overall construction and moved well.

Junior (3/1)

1st Crouch’s Cobbets Cameo Peach – 1 year old Blenheim bitch with lots to like about her.  Lovely head, correct bite, large well fringed ears.  Good neck into a short coupled body with adequate spring of rib.  Straight front and good bend of stifle.  Good compact feet with tail in balance with rest of body.  Lovely, free flowing movement with drive.  Pleased to award her BOB.  2nd Li’s Avalcier Ace –
This tri-colour boy is just a year old.  Nicely marked head, dark eye, good scissor bite.  Moderate neck into a well made body with good sprung ribs.  Good straight front with compact feet.  Good bend of stifle to rear.  Good action when on the move.

Post Graduate (3/1)

Morrison’s Ynyspfeil Highland Heather of Lewisisle – This 2 ½ year black and tan girl has lots to like in construction.  Lovely head with good dentition, good dark eyes, long high set ears which are well feathered.  Good short coupled body with a good spring of rib.  Straight front and well angulated rear.  Nice compact feet.  Free flowing on the move.  I would have preferred a straighter coat.  2nd Kemp’s Capriconia Figgy Pudding – this 3 ½ year ruby bitch has a good head and bite, long high set ears which are well feathered.  Well constructed through out.  Just preferred the movement of 1.

Morrison’s Lewisisle Highland Betsy – This black and tan girl of 6 years is in good coat.  Has a lovely head with a dark eye, good dentition, slightly arched neck into well made body with well sprung ribs.  A straight front with a good bend of stifle to rear.  Nice compact feet all in balance to complete the picture on the stand.  Moved and showed well RBOB.

2nd Kemp’s Capriconia Donatello – This black and tan 4 year old male was unlucky to meet 1, very similar in overall construction but I just preferred 1’s movement.

1st Haffenden and Wood’s Nasabe Play the Game – This lovely made 9 month girl certainly did.  Black and tan in all the right places and a thick glossy coat, wedge shaped long narrow flat skull and sparkling dark eye, strong jaw with a good scissor bite.  Slightly arched neck into compact body with a deep chest and well sprung ribs.   Top line slightly arched to rear.  Low set tail. Fine boned, straight front and good bend of stifle on rear.  Small, compact catlike feet, easy smooth free flowing movement completing the picture RBOB and BP.  2nd Harman, Harman and Wood’s Nasabe it’s on the Cards for Boimans – This 9 month black and tan girl has very similar qualities to 1.  Just preferred movement of 1.

1st Haffenden & Wood’s Ch Witchstone Minnehaha – this lovely sized black and tan girl showed quality throughout.  Lovely wedge shaped head, dark twinkling small eyes with set candle shaped ears with a strong jaw with a scissor bite.  Gracefully arched neck into a well laidback of shoulder, compact body with slightly curved topline to low set tail carried well.  Good, straight front and a good bend of stifle to rear. Correct compact feet with pencilling.  She excelled in a precise free flowing movement and a lovely outline on the stand.  Very pleased to award her BOB and G1.  2ndHarman’s Ch Witchstone Crazy Horse at Boimans – this larger 5 year old male has lots to like.  A good head and construction.  Lost out on the better movement of 1.

1st Patterson, Patterson and McGregor’s Jamenei Enzo Ferrari at Fruindale – This 2 year old male has a good, broad head and correct bite, dark eyes and well fringed correctly set ears.  Good length of neck into a well proportioned body with well sprung ribs.  Shoulders are well laid back with a good straight front.  Good bend of stifle and a well-muscled rear.  Moved and showed well RBOB.

1st Patterson, Patterson and McGregor’s Leoncino Valentina for Fruindale – This 4 year old girl has a lovely broad head with expressive dark eyes.  Good scissor bite with correctly set and fringed ears.  A good length of neck into well laid shoulders.  A well proportioned body with a deep chest and well sprung ribs.  A straight front and well-muscled rear with a good bend of stifle.  In a lovely single shiny coat, she moved effortlessly around the ring with a level top line at all times BOB.

Toy Group

Group 1 – Ch Witchstone Minnehaha (ETT), Group 2 Piper’s Be My Dog’s Topsail Cody of Sanjero (Imp Deu) JW (Chinese Crested) – This 5 year old male has a great outline on the stand and displays good flowing movement with plenty of drive and a level topline and well carried tail.  Good head and skull, with dark almond eyes, strong jaw with a good scissor bite.  Erect low set ears, good neck into well laid shoulders.  Good body with slender front legs set under body, elbows close with a well-muscled rear.  Group 3 Truelove’s Nijacpugs Hot an Bothered (pug) – This fawn 11 month boy is full of charisma, totally happy with the job at hand.  Lovely outline on the stand, moving out with purpose, and soundly at all times.  Good head with very expressive, dark eyes and a good bite.  He has a thick strong neck into a cobby body with well sprung ribs, strong straight front set under body with well sloped shoulders.  Strong rear with a good turn of stifle and correct feet.  Tail carried well.  He has a short, glossy coat.  Group 4 Gill’s Florindale William Waffle (affenpinscher).

Toy Puppy Group

Group 1 – Truelove’s Nijacpugs Hot an Bothered (pug).  Group 2 Haffenden & Wood’s Nasabe Play the Game (ETT).  Group 3 Marsden’s Finity Run the Gauntlet (papillon) – This 11 month old striking tri boy has good head proportions, good stop, nice blaze and good scissor bite.  Correctly set, large mobile fringed ears, good neck into well laid shoulders and a nice straight front.  Good body with a good spring of rib, good bend of stifle on a well-muscled rear. Good tail set arched over back.  Lovely hare feet but lacking tuffs of hair.  Moved well on the day with a level topline.  Group 4 Ellen’s Klassna Magic Touch (Pomeranian) – This 7 month orange boy had a good outline on the stand with a brisk strut in his movement.  He is a short coupled compact boy with a twinkle in his eyes.  A foxy look to him, good jaw with a scissor bite and small erect ears.  Short neck into a compact body, a good lay of shoulder into a straight front.  Slight angulation to rear.  High set tail carried well.

The Keith Wright Memorial AV Puppy Stakes (33/17)

1st Whitton’s Haggarty Bonafide (beagle) – This 9 month tri boy has a lovely temperament, he has a well defined head with brown, expressive eyes.  A strong jaw with scissor bite and long low set rounded ears.  Adequate neck into good shoulder lay and nice straight front.  He has a good balance to this body which has a deep chest with well sprung rib, a good muscled rear with a high set well carried tail.  He has a lovely free stepping movement keeping a level topline at all times.  2nd Ingram, Ingram, Tousent and Lack’s Jojavik Spangled Mob – This 9 month old girl has lots to like. She is well marked and very alert.  She has a good wedge shaped head with a black nose, lovely expressive eyes, neat high set dropped ears and a strong jaw with a scissor bite.  A good neck into a good, straight front and a well made body with deep well sprung chest.  A good tuck up, she has a good muscled rear and her feet are compact with a well set and carried tail completing the picture.  She has a lovely free and well balanced movement with lots of drive holding a level topline at all times.
